سُورَةُ الكَهۡفِ · Meccan · Verse 72 of 110
قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِىَ صَبْرًۭا
Translation
He replied, ‘Did I not tell you that you would never be able to bear with me patiently?’

Meaning and reflection
'He said: Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have patience with me?' al-Saadi and Ibn Kathir note the gentle 'I told you so', not mockery, but a recalling of the very warning that named this exact failure: the inability to withhold protest at what one cannot yet understand. Ask yourself: how quickly Musa's sincere resolve broke at the first genuinely confusing event. His patience held perfectly in theory and collapsed at the first real test, which is precisely how my resolve to trust God tends to go. I promise patience in calm moments and shatter into 'why is this happening?' at the first blow. The teacher's reminder is a mirror: the gap between my intended patience and my actual patience is exposed the instant something inexplicable strikes. When my trust in God's wisdom crumbles at the first hardship, do I recognise the pattern the story is showing me about myself?
