Meaning & Reflection
'A revelation from the Lord of the worlds.' al-Saadi and Ibn Ashur note the source named plainly at the summit of the oath — 'tanzilun min rabb al-'alamin': sent down from the Lord of all the worlds, the ultimate origin and authority behind every word. Ask yourself: this is the claim that changes everything about how I should hold the Qur'an — it is not a human product, however wise, but a *sending-down* from the Lord of all creation. If I truly believed that the words I skim were dispatched to me personally from the Sustainer of the universe, I could not read them the way I read anything else. The oath, the guarded Book, the purity required — all of it converges here: this is *His* speech to me. Do I meet it as a message from the Lord of the worlds, or as one more text competing for my attention?
