Surah Al-Waqi'ah 56:57
سُورَةُ الوَاقِعَةِ · Meccan · Verse 57 of 96
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
Translation
It was We who created you: will you not believe?
English translation: M.A.S. Abdel Haleem.
Meaning and reflection
'It is We who created you, so why do you not affirm the truth?' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note the pivot from scenes of the hereafter to a direct argument: the God who made you from nothing the first time is obviously able to remake you, so your own creation is the proof of your resurrection, if you would only accept it. Ask yourself: I doubt renewal, the resurrection, but also whether my dead heart or broken situation could ever come back to life, as if a second making were harder than the first. This verse points to the evidence I am: I was created from nothing, and here I stand. The One who managed that finds re-creating me trivial. Why do I withhold belief from the very Power whose handiwork I plainly am?
