وَفَٰكِهَةٍۢ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ

English: [there will be] any fruit they choose;

Bengali: আর তাদের পছন্দমত ফল-মুল নিয়ে,

Meaning & Reflection

'And fruit, from whatever they choose.' al-Saadi and Ibn Ashur note 'mimma yatakhayyarun' — fruit precisely to their choosing, desire and provision in perfect alignment, no gap between wanting and having. Ask yourself: so much of my restlessness here is that gap — I want what I cannot have, or get what I no longer want, or the thing arrives drained of the longing that made it precious. This verse pictures a state where choice and fulfilment simply coincide. It names, beneath the fruit, the deep human ache for a world where my desires and my reality finally agree. Recognising that seamless fulfilment is a feature of the Gardens and not of this world, do I stop demanding that this life close a gap it was never built to close?
