Surah Ar-Rahmaan 55:31 — Meaning, Translation & Reflection

سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ أَيُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ

English: We shall attend to you two huge armies [of jinn and mankind].

Bengali: হে জিন ও মানব! আমি শীঘ্রই তোমাদের জন্যে কর্মমুক্ত হয়ে যাব।

Meaning & Reflection

'We shall attend to you, O you two burdened classes.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note the turn: 'sanafrughu lakum' — a reckoning is coming for both mankind and jinn, an appointment that will not be skipped. What runs loose now will one day be fully addressed. Ask yourself: I live much of my life on the assumption that things will simply carry on unexamined — that the loose ends, the unsettled accounts, the deferred questions may never actually come due. This verse says the opposite: there is a moment when I will receive undivided attention, when my whole record is 'attended to'. Am I living as though that appointment is real and coming — or as though the informal, unaccountable present will just quietly extend forever?
