فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةًۭ سِيٓـَٔتْ وُجُوهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقِيلَ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ

English: When they see it close at hand, the disbelievers’ faces will be gloomy, and it will be said, ‘This is what you were calling for.’

Bengali: যখন তারা সেই প্রতিশ্রুতিকে আসন্ন দেখবে তখন কাফেরদের মুখমন্ডল মলিন হয়ে পড়বে এবং বলা হবেঃ এটাই তো তোমরা চাইতে।

Meaning & Reflection

'But when they see it drawn near, the faces of those who disbelieved will be grieved.' Ibn Ashur and al-Biqa'i note the collapse is instant: the confident denial holds only until the promise stops being distant and becomes near — then it drains from the face all at once. What was mocked from far off is unbearable up close. Ask yourself: how much of my ease is really just distance — a reckoning kept comfortably far away? This verse shows the exact moment the buffer disappears and the truth arrives in the face. If seeing it 'near' would rearrange everything, why am I letting its mere distance keep me relaxed now?
