Surah Al-Mulk 67:25 — Meaning, Translation & Reflection

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

English: They say, ‘If what you say is true, when will this promise be fulfilled?’

Bengali: কাফেররা বলেঃ এই প্রতিশ্রুতি কবে হবে, যদি তোমরা সত্যবাদী হও?

Meaning & Reflection

'And they say: When will this promise come, if you are truthful?' Ibn Ashur notes the demand is not a sincere question but a challenge — treating the unknown timing of the reckoning as if it disproved the reckoning itself. al-Biqa'i reads it as mockery dressed up as inquiry. Ask yourself: 'if it were real, why hasn't it happened yet?' is a reflex I know well — I use the delay of a consequence as evidence it won't come. But a promise is not made false by being unscheduled. Where in my life am I mistaking 'not yet' for 'never', and living off the comfort of a deadline I can't see?
