Surah Al-Waqi'ah 56:90
سُورَةُ الوَاقِعَةِ · Meccan · Verse 90 of 96
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
Translation
if he is one of those on the Right,

Meaning and reflection
'And if he was of the companions of the right...' al-Saadi and Ibn Ashur note the Surah turns to the second, vast class at the moment of death, the ordinary saved, the people of the right hand. Ask yourself: after the elite 'brought-near', the verse returns to the reachable multitude, those who were not spiritual giants but ended up faithful, on the right. There is steadying hope in this second envelope: I need not be certain I am among the foremost to have something good waiting at the threshold. The right hand is a wide, attainable shore. It refocuses my striving from an anxious reach for the unreachable summit onto a hopeful, sincere faithfulness that lands me, at the last breath, among the people of the right. Which envelope is my everyday life actually sealing?
