Meaning & Reflection
'Devoted and of equal age.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note 'uruban atraba' — 'urub', deeply loving and devoted to their companions, and 'atrab', matched in age and harmony. The picture is of love that is mutual, wholehearted, and perfectly suited. Ask yourself: so much of the ache in human relationships is mismatch — uneven love, one heart more invested than the other, devotion that isn't returned in kind. This verse pictures companionship without that imbalance: love fully mutual, perfectly matched. It affirms that my longing for a love that is equal, devoted, and unshadowed is not naive — it is a real longing that God intends to fulfil completely.
