Meaning and reflection
'Dark green in their lushness.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note 'mudhammatan', a green so deep it verges on dark, the colour of dense, water-rich, thriving growth. Ask yourself: deep green is the colour of life at its fullest, shade, moisture, flourishing. The verse lets me feel the reward through a colour, appealing to something in me that already responds to lush, living green with rest and relief. It hints that Paradise answers not only my grand hopes but my quiet, bodily longings, for shade, coolness, the peace of a green place. When a stretch of deep green stills something in me here, could I read it as a faint sample, a colour-postcard from the Gardens?
