Surah Ar-Rahman 55:51
سُورَةُ الرَّحۡمَٰن · Medinan · Verse 51 of 78
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
Translation
Which, then, of your Lord’s blessings do you both deny?

Meaning and reflection
'So which of the favours of your Lord will you two deny?' The refrain rests here on the flowing springs, on the promise of a satisfaction that never runs dry. al-Saadi notes that the very existence of such a reward is a favour to yearn toward. Ask yourself: my days are spent chasing refills, the next comfort, the next hit of ease, because the last one drained. The image of an unfailing spring names the deeper ache beneath all that chasing: I want something that will finally not run out. Which favour will I deny by refusing to lift my thirst from the temporary to the eternal? The refrain keeps asking me to notice both the gift and the Giver behind every quenching.
