Surah Al-Baqara 2:6 — Meaning, Translation & Reflection
سُورَةُ البَقَرَةِ · Medinan · Verse 6 of 286
English: As for those who disbelieve, it makes no difference whether you warn them or not: they will not believe.
Bengali: নিশ্চিতই যারা কাফের হয়েছে তাদেরকে আপনি ভয় প্রদর্শন করুন আর নাই করুন তাতে কিছুই আসে যায় না, তারা ঈমান আনবে না।
Meaning & Reflection
'Indeed, those who disbelieve — it is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note this describes the second category: hearts so hardened by settled, obstinate rejection that the warning and its absence land identically. Ask yourself: the frightening thing is a state where truth simply cannot get in anymore — where reminder and silence are equivalent because the heart has closed. It is not that they lack evidence; it is that they have decided, and shut the door. It warns me that persistent refusal can bring a person to a point where change becomes practically impossible. Is there any area of my life where I have quietly 'decided' against the truth so firmly that no reminder reaches me — where I've made warning and no-warning the same by refusing in advance to listen?
Grounded in classical tafsir: Ibn Ashur, al-Saadi, Ibn Kathir.
Reflect with the Five Lenses
Maani's framework for Tadabbur (heart-centred reflection) on Surah Al-Baqara 2:6:
- Wording. Look closely at the specific words and structure. Which word stands out, and why might Allah have chosen it here?
- Quranic Worlds. Place the verse in its context — what is happening around it, and what world does it open up?
- Personal Experience. Ask not just what this means, but what it means TO me and FOR me, right now in my life.
- Connections. How does this verse connect to other verses, to the Sunnah, or to themes across the Quran?
- General Lessons. What timeless lesson or action point can I carry away and live by?
