Surah Ar-Rahman 55:18
سُورَةُ الرَّحۡمَٰن · Medinan · Verse 18 of 78
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
Translation
Which, then, of your Lord’s blessings do you both deny?

Meaning and reflection
'So which of the favours of your Lord will you two deny?' al-Saadi notes the refrain here rests on the favour just named, that the very rising and setting of my days is governed by Him. Ask yourself: the arrival of another morning is perhaps the most-taken-for-granted gift I have; I wake and simply assume the day. But a dawn is not owed to me, it is issued, one at a time, by the Lord of every east and west. Which favour will I deny? Even the plain fact that I got to open my eyes to another day is on the list. What if I began tomorrow by counting the sunrise as a mercy, rather than as the default setting of a universe that happens to include me?
