لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًۭا مَّآ أُنذِرَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَٰفِلُونَ
English: to warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and so they are unaware.
Bengali: যাতে আপনি এমন এক জাতিকে সতর্ক করেন, যাদের পূর্ব পুরুষগণকেও সতর্ক করা হয়নি। ফলে তারা গাফেল।
Meaning & Reflection
'To warn a people whose fathers were not warned, so they are heedless.' al-Biqa'i notes these were sharp, capable people — yet without a warner they had drifted into ghaflah, heedlessness. The verse locates the problem not in stupidity but in the *absence of a reminder*: a generation with no one to wake it sleeps, however clever it is. Ask yourself: my age is full of intelligence and information, yet this verse suggests brilliance and heedlessness sit together easily. When did a reminder last actually reach me and shake me awake — and who or what in my life is playing the role of the warner I clearly still need?
