Surah Ya-Sin 36:6
سُورَةُ يسٓ · Meccan · Verse 6 of 83
لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًۭا مَّآ أُنذِرَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَٰفِلُونَ
Translation
to warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and so they are unaware.

Meaning and reflection
'To warn a people whose fathers were not warned, so they are heedless.' al-Biqa'i notes these were sharp, capable people, yet without a warner they had drifted into ghaflah, heedlessness. The verse locates the problem not in stupidity but in the absence of a reminder: a generation with no one to wake it sleeps, however clever it is. Ask yourself: my age is full of intelligence and information, yet this verse suggests brilliance and heedlessness sit together easily. When did a reminder last actually reach me and shake me awake, and who or what in my life is playing the role of the warner I clearly still need?
