قَالُوا۟ طَٰٓئِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌۭ مُّسْرِفُونَ

English: The messengers said, ‘The evil omen is within yourselves. Why do you take it as an evil omen when you are reminded of the Truth? You are going too far!’

Bengali: রসূলগণ বলল, তোমাদের অকল্যাণ তোমাদের সাথেই! এটা কি এজন্যে যে, আমরা তোমাদেরকে সদুপদেশ দিয়েছি? বস্তুতঃ তোমরা সীমা লংঘনকারী সম্প্রদায় বৈ নও।

Meaning & Reflection

The messengers answered: 'Your omen is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded? Rather, you are a people who transgress.' al-Saadi and Ibn Ashur note the piercing turn: your 'bad luck' is not us — it is what you carry inside. And the stunning question — is it really the *reminder* you're calling a calamity? Ask yourself: I look for the source of my troubles everywhere but in my own choices — bad timing, bad people, bad luck. This verse turns the mirror around: your omen is *with yourselves*. And it asks the sharper thing — have I started treating being *reminded* of the truth as an affront, as if the problem were the wake-up call rather than the sleep?
