Surah Al-Baqarah 2:43
سُورَةُ البَقَرَةِ · Medinan · Verse 43 of 286
وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱرْكَعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ
Translation
Keep up the prayer, pay the prescribed alms, and bow your heads [in worship] with those who bow theirs.

Meaning and reflection
'And establish prayer, give zakat, and bow with those who bow.' al-Saadi and Ibn Kathir note the three pillars named, prayer (the bond with God), zakat (the duty to society's poor), and 'bow with those who bow', the communal, congregational dimension of worship. Ask yourself: notice the third command, worship is not only private but together, 'with those who bow'. Faith here is not a solitary project but a shared one, practised in community, shoulder to shoulder. In an age that privatises and individualises everything, including spirituality, this verse insists on belonging, on joining the congregation, not just praying alone. Am I building my faith in isolation, on my own terms and schedule, or am I 'bowing with those who bow', anchored in a community of worship that holds me steady when my own resolve wavers?
