بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَلَمْ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عِوَجَا ۜ
English: Praise be to God, who sent down the Scripture to His servant and made it unerringly straight,
Bengali: সব প্রশংসা আল্লাহর যিনি নিজের বান্দার প্রতি এ গ্রন্থ নাযিল করেছেন এবং তাতে কোন বক্রতা রাখেননি।
Meaning & Reflection
'All praise to God, who sent down the Book to His servant and let no crookedness be in it.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note the Book is praised first for being 'straight' — free of 'iwaj, any distortion, contradiction, or bent toward falsehood. al-Biqa'i notes the Surah's theme is a Book that is 'qayyim', upright and setting others upright. Ask yourself: I live surrounded by messages with an angle — sold to me bent toward someone's profit, ideology, or ego. This verse presents a communication with *no* crookedness, nothing skewed, nothing hidden to manipulate me. That is a startling claim in a world of spin. If there truly is one straight Book among all the bent ones, how much of my attention does it get compared to the crooked messaging I consume all day?
