وَٱمْتَٰزُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
English: But step aside today, you guilty ones.
Bengali: হে অপরাধীরা! আজ তোমরা আলাদা হয়ে যাও।
Meaning & Reflection
'And [it will be said]: Stand apart today, O criminals.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note the moment of separation: in this world the righteous and the corrupt are mingled — same streets, same families, same crowds — but on that Day the mixing ends and each is sorted to their own. The commonality of the present dissolves into the clarity of the outcome. Ask yourself: here I can blend into the crowd, my choices blurred among everyone else's, my direction hidden by the company I keep. This verse pictures a day when the crowd is dispersed and I stand with those whose path I actually shared. Stripped of the camouflage of the crowd, which group would my real, private choices place me among?
