Daily Ayah ยท Ali 'Imran 3:139
You replay one setback again and again, and the heaviness stays with you long after the day is over.
This ayah came after Uhud, when the believers were wounded, grieving their dead, and shaken by their own mistakes.
Allah names two things to refuse. Al-Saadi explains them as weakness in the body and grief in the heart.
Ibn Ashur notes that both come from believing all is lost, and that belief leads to giving up and no longer trying.
Al-Saadi explains that grief and weakness are an added calamity on top of the first one. So the believers are told to steady their hearts.
Grieve honestly, but do not stay there. Ma'arif al-Quran says to spend your energy on putting things right ahead, not on sorrow over the past.
Amal for today: Name one thing from a past setback that you can still fix, and do its first small step today.
