Daily Ayah · Al-Baqarah 2:286
You finish a long day and lie awake, thinking of all the good you hoped to do. You wonder if you can ever keep up.
This ayah says Allah does not burden a soul beyond its wus'. That word is key, and it is often translated as capacity.
The root of wus' carries the sense of room and space, like a container wide enough to hold what is placed inside it.
Does wus' mean the very most you could ever manage?
Al-Baghawi explains that wus' is less than a person's full strength, so Allah does not burden anyone beyond what they can bear. Other scholars say the same.
Give fully what fits within you, steadily and sincerely. Where you truly cannot, this ayah shows Allah's mercy, so do not despair.
Amal for today: Choose one voluntary good habit you dropped because it felt too heavy, and restart it today in a small, steady way.
