Daily Ayah · Ash-Shu'ara 26:80
You wake up feverish and text a friend, "I'm sick today." Plain words, yet this ayah shows a prophet choosing his words with great care.
Ibrahim is telling his people what his Lord gives him: guidance, food, drink, and healing.
Look at the wording. Ibrahim says "when I am ill" and gives the healing to Allah, though illness and healing both come by the decree of Allah.
Ibn Kathir notes that Ibrahim chose to attribute the illness to himself, even though it is by the decree of Allah. Why speak this way?
Al-Qurtubi explains it is adab, good manners with Allah. Ibrahim names the illness as his own, and gives the healing to Allah.
When you are unwell, say plainly how you feel, ask Allah for healing, and take the treatment and care you need.
Amal for today: When you or someone you love is unwell, ask Allah for healing in your own words, and take the care or treatment needed today.
