Daily Ayah ยท Al-Furqan 25:74

You finish praying, and your mind drifts to the people at home. Their worries, their choices, their future.

The translation says joy, but the Arabic word is qurrah, which literally means coolness. Al-Baghawi notes the Arabs found heat painful and coolness restful.

So these believers ask for what would bring rest to their eyes when they look at their family. What could that be: looks, success, comfort?

Ibn Kathir, citing Ikrimah, says they did not mean beauty or good looks. They wanted their loved ones to be obedient to Allah.

Many scholars explain that the believers here pray for their family to be close to Allah. Al-Baghawi records that nothing cools a believer's eyes more.

Pray for your family's closeness to Allah, not only for their success. Al-Saadi notes that this du'a is also for yourself, since its good returns to you.

Amal for today: Make a short du'a today for one person at home to grow close to Allah.
